H.U.R.T. Report for August, 2008.
Last weekend there was the third Tempe HURT training at First Baptist Church of Tempe and it was an amazing success with earnest support and attentive participation.
About 50 people filled the room with an excitement and passion, hearing from leaders and engaging in serious discussions to serve the community with HURT's "TOP" (Training Operation Packet) preparing each individual and family for emergency. Thank you for those who spoke in the training: Mayor Hallman, Fire Chief Jones, Assistant Police Chief Buren, Chaplain McHatton, Fire Inspector Michael Reichling, Volunteer Coordinator Christine King, Pastor Rick Burdett, and Dr. Ford. We received lots of positive feedback on this training and look forward to the next move of Tempe HURT to fulfill the call on the taskforce.
Serious discussion took place at the H.U.R.T. training on how to better serve the Community. Mayor Hallman speaking.

Training certificates signed by the mayor, police and fire chief were distributed or mailed this week for previous trainees. For those who received training last weekend will have them mailed soon. Through the three trainings, about 60 people from 25 faith organizations received the facilitators' instruction on "Are You Ready" FEMA material, 72 hour kit and HURT database instruments. Now it is the time for these facilitators to go to their faith organizations and train their members for emergency preparedness.
Mayor Hallman proclaimed Saturday and Sunday (September 27th and 28th) as "Facilitator Recognition Day" to honor the HURT facilitators in each faith organization. This mayor's proclamation encourages all faith organizations in the City of Tempe to recognize Tempe HURT facilitators training and trainees at their worship gathering.
Meanwhile Tempe HURT will continue its mission to reach the first step of the taskforce's vision:
-To register 80% of the faith community of Tempe in the "Are You Ready" training with trained facilitators (through HURT) training and facilitating in their local house of worship (15,000 - 20,000 people aware of how to be prepared for the first 72 hours).
-To have 80% of the faith community fill out the emergency information forms and return it to their office.
