Message from Mayor Tony Smith

My desire is to engage our faith community and community volunteers in effective collaboration to develop and implement solutions to the many challenges we face.

Our program will not be talk; it will be one of action—finding ways to put feet to our faith through service.  I am going to be there and we hope you will be also. If you cannot attend, then please send someone to represent you and your organization.  For Our City and I recognize your service in our community and understand without your input, the collaboration is not complete.

The event will be held at the Southern Dunes Country Club on Thursday, July 21st from 7:30am – 9:30am. Southern Dunes is located on North-side of Hwy 238 a couple miles west of Hwy 347. Thank you to the Church for the Nations and Pastor Ike Harris for graciously sponsoring this breakfast.

Jon McHatton of CARE, Inc. introduces the For Our City initiative to community leaders.

CARE, Inc., in collaboration with Mayor Anthony Smith, introduced a citywide initiative called For Our City-Maricopa to various community leaders last week.

Residents from the business, government, volunteer and faith-based sectors of the city met to discuss some of the city’s needs and how to respond to them.

Jon McHatton, former chaplain of the state legislature and president of CARE, Inc., presented background on the types of initiatives undertaken by cities like Page, Sedona, Tempe and Chandler. According to McHatton, each city has its own particular focus, dependent on the passions of its leaders.

The vision of For Our City and its intent is the support of existing programs and organizations while looking at community endeavors that require innovative programs and solutions to respond to residents’ needs, or, as McHatton mentioned, “whatever need has fallen through the cracks.”
